Nevae’s Upholstery is now a third-generation family-owned and operated business with over forty years of experience. My father, Juan Ortiz was always a part of the furniture industry. When he established in San Luis Potosi, Mexico he worked for a furniture manufacturing company for many years. In 1976 he opened, “Tapiceria Fina” (Luxurious Upholstery). At the time of opening Tapiceria Fina I was fifteen years old. At 15 years old I was introduced the art of upholstery by my father, unknowing the art of furniture would later become my passion.
Years later alongside my wife, Juanis, I opened my first upholstery shop and operated for fifteen years. It became important to continue learning and mastering the industry and decided to travel. I had the opportunity to work for great upholsters in California, Houston, Dallas. Every upholster I worked for coached me and therefore enhanced my knowledge and craftmanship in the upholstery world
Finally, in 1998 Austin, Texas became home for my children, wife and myself. I worked for two great upholsters in Austin, Juan Nombrana and Brian Riley. Both were amazing instructors teaching me classic ways.
In 2010 , the doors to Nevae’s Upholstery opened. “Nevae” being Heaven spelled backwards without the “H” was a way to honor my first granddaughter’s middle name. This chapter in my life is the best decision I could have done. Working alongside your family creating, building and upholstering furniture for our clients together is an unencryptable feeling.
I want to thank my father, Mr. Nombrana and Mr. Riley for teaching me everything I know today. These three amazing and talented upholsters have now passed but I will forever cherish and will keep delivering top quality to my clients and designers just as they taught me too. I am now equipping my children with my knowledge and skills in hopes they will continue the family trait to their kids and keep this Nevae art alive.
